Abstract
The goal of surgical treatment for breast cancer is eradication of the disease locally. Because of the aesthetic and psychological importance attached to the breast and patient¡¯s fears of mutilation, recent trends provide for less ablative surgical treatment.

Breast reconstruction enhances the quality of life following the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer by reducing the asthetic deformity and psychological trauma.

The method for breast reconstruction following radical mastectomy depends mainly on the amount and quality of skin and soft tissue of the anterior chest wall, the presence of irradiation change, the status of thoracodorsal artery etc.

During the last decade, the modified radical mastectomy has essentially replaced the classic Halsted radical mastectomy for ablation of breast cancer. With the lesser radical prodecure, the reconstructive surgeon is not as frequently required to bring in additional tissue in order to cover prosthetic device or to eliminate a previously placed skin graft.

Since Radovan has demonstrated a wide variation in the use of tissue expander in1976, the use of tissue expander has increased in breast reconstruction.

We experienced 7 cases of breast reconstruction by using tissue expander after modified radical mastectomy, two cases of Poland¡¯s syndrome and one of paraffinoma.

We believe this procedure is less extensive surgery and satisfactory in asthetic, economic and psychologic aspects of patients.
